Protection’ (ICCP) Systems from lightning induced surge damage
Application
Cathodic Protection Systems for metallic pipeline systems are subject to damaged by lightning induced surges as well as AC line disturbances. SensorGuard will limit surge damage to the rectifiers and anode bed, both critical elements of an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection system.
The Problem
Rectifier systems which support Cathodic Protection systems for gas pipelines are subject to significant electrical damage from power & lightning hits on the pipeline and AC lines. These ‘power quality’ issues are a threat because they can damage the rectifiers that provide critical corrosion control. Because the rectifier stands electrically between the AC service and the pipeline and anode groundbed, it is at risk as surge currents flow from the pipeline to the grounding system which is designed for corrosion control and not lightning mitigation.
